Services to Adults: Adswood & Bridgehall

Overview
This service was set up in 2009 in response to Beacon analysing its statistics. We discovered that no-one from the Adswood or Bridgehall areas of Stockport were accessing the generic service, even though it is just down the road from the main office, and people were coming from much further away. On looking into it further, we discovered that there was no other service available in the area, yet it had the worst mental health statistics. Beacon decided to respond by creating a service for local residents that was free, convenient, and accessible. The results nearly 2 and a half years on are that over 100 people from Adswood & Bridgehall have benefited from counselling at Beacon.

Outcomes
People using the service have often been struggling with depression, anxiety, and poor mental health for a long time, and have complex lives. Many are out of work as a result, and this service has helped improve people mental health and well-being by reducing the levels of depression, anxiety, and psychological distress, and also through increasing their levels of confidence and self-esteem. Some have managed huge changes in their lives and have been able to return to work after more than a year of unemployment.
