What is Friends of Beacon?

Friends of Beacon is for people who are interested in the work of Beacon and would like to support it. By signing up you will receive a regular newsletter sent out to you by email or post that keeps you informed of developments in the charity and how we are doing. You will also receive invitations to special events.

Who becomes a Friend of Beacon?

In short, anyone! We currently have around 150 Friends of Beacon who are a range of counsellors, volunteer receptionists, interested members of the public, people with experience of counselling, and other professionals. We are happy to welcome anyone with an interest in making Beacon the best it can be.

What are the benefits of being a Friend of Beacon?

If you join Friends of Beacon, you will receive our bi-monthly newsletter via email or post, and this gives you details of our work, news of our successes, updates on the funding of the service, and advice on creating and maintaining positive mental health.

You will also be invited to our AGM, social gatherings, and to our Open Forum (the annual meeting where all people with an interest or connection with Beacon gather to discuss and decide our current and future plans for development).

How do you join?

Just contact us requesting a Friends of Beacon form, and we will send you the details.

How much does it cost?

Ideally, we would like you to sign up to giving a small amount by direct debit each month. This can be just £5 or £10. If monthly giving is too expensive, there is a quarterly option or even an annual option. Basically, whatever you can afford or would like to give.

If you pay income tax, we also ask that you tick the Gift Aid box. This means that Beacon can claim back from the government the income tax you have paid to them at no cost you! If you are a higher rate tax payer, then you can claim back the difference between the higher and lower rates for yourself.
